Purchase a do-it-yourself radon test kit. Keep all the windows and doors closed during the testing to prevent inaccurate results. Windows and doors should also be closed 12 hours prior to testing.

Put the test kit in a low level room which is used often such as the bedroom or the living room. The radon test kit should be placed at least 20 inches from the floor or according to the kit's directions. Leave it for the required amount of time. Some kits require testing for two to three days.

Seal the test kit in the appropriate bag and mail it to the specific laboratory stated in the instructions. This should be done promptly to ensure accuracy.
