Purged Storage Tank Removal

Storage tanks sometimes contain some nasty compounds that can be harmful to your health and the environment. A purged storage tank has been cleansed of dangerous chemicals. But even after the hazardous waste is gone, the tank needs to be disposed of.

  1. Recycling

    • Many purged storage tanks can be recycled. But because steel recyclers have stringent guidelines on what they will accept, this disposal method is only for tanks that have been completely purged of hazardous materials.

    Landfill Disposal

    • If a tank does not meet recycling guidelines, it may be disposed of at a landfill. Because of space restrictions, tanks disposed in landfills often need to be cut into smaller pieces beforehand.

    Abandon the Tank

    • As a last resort, it may be necessary to abandon at storage tank after it is purged of as many hazardous materials as possible. Should this be an option, the location of the abandoned tank should be recorded in case the tank requires future maintenance.
