Wireless Effects on Humans
When a cell phone tower connects with a cell phone, electromagnetic radiation is created. Americans put 270 million cell phones to use during 2009, as ABC News has reported, so reasonably, wireless device users may wonder about the health repercussions of all this radiation exposure. Scientists hotly debate whether wireless devices like the cell phone cause health problems. Yet in September 2007, the European Environment Agency warned that cell-phone technology "could lead to a health crisis similar to those caused by asbestos, smoking and lead in petrol."-
Brain Damage
-
At the conclusion of a 10 year Interphone study conducted by researchers from 13 countries in 2009, the World Health Organization acknowledged that long-term use of a cell phone may cause brain damage. The head of the study, Dr. Elisabeth Cardis, warned that in the light of a number of studies that suggest a possible effect of radiofrequency radiation, precautions are important. Additional studies, mostly from Europe's top research institutions, also demonstrate a link between cell phone or PDA use and brain cancer, early-onset Alzheimer's senility and other health concerns.
Cancer of the Salivary Gland and Infertility
-
Interphone researchers from Israel found that cell phones can cause cancer of the parotid gland, which is the salivary gland in the cheek. Still other research indicated electromagnetic fields slow the motility of sperm, noting that many men carry their cell phones in pants pockets or attached at the hip.
Diabetes Type-3
-
Doctors have long known that exercise, such as going for a walk, helps decrease blood sugar levels in type-2 diabetics. However, Dr. Magda Havis from Trent University in Canada was surprised to discover that when these same individuals walked on a treadmill, blood sugar levels increased. Her research demonstrated a third cause of diabetes. Type-3 diabetics experience a surge in blood sugar and heart rate when they're exposed to electromagnetic fields, called electric pollution, from pervasive devices like cell phones, TVs and computers.
Recommendations for Use
-
First and foremost, reduce exposure to electromagnetic fields by maximizing the distance between them and your head. Use a headset, the speakerphone option on your cell phone, or text the person you want to contact. Cardis, the head researcher of the Interphone study, cautions parents to limit unnecessary use of cell phones by children, while still using them for emergencies and keeping in touch with them during the day as needed.
Foods that Detoxify Radiation
-
A healthy diet helps fight back against electromagnetic exposure. Apples, cruciferous vegetables like broccoli and cauliflower and citrus fruits contain antioxidant compounds that help protect the body from radiation-induced cellular changes, according to a study from India. The Natural News also reports that scientists in Spain found that carnosic and rosmarinic acids in the herb rosemary protected against free radicals from radiation already present in cells.
