Florida EPA Regulations for Diesel Tanks

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) sets standard regulations for hazardous materials and potential pollutants. However, each state also has its own environmental agency to handle oversee unique environmental concerns for their region. With the popularity of trucking fleets in the state, Florida pays special attention to diesel tank storage.
  1. Vapors

    • Florida's Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) requires you use a flame ionization detector or similar device to monitor vapor levels around your tank area. The guidelines state there can be no more than 50 parts per million total petroleum hydrocarbons for storage tank systems containing diesel.

    Registration

    • Registrations forms must be submitted to the FDEP for each diesel tank. A fee must be paid for each tank from $25 to $50 (as of 2010). Registration forms are mailed directly to the FDEP.

    Shut-Off Valves

    • All tanks should have emergency shut-off valves. Tank systems should have a secondary storage unit to protect the environment from leaks. In case of leaks, the FDEP must be notified immediately.
