Renewable energy is on the rise, with more and more companies converting their old light and power systems to solar and wind-powered energy systems. Solar light suppliers like New York based Urban Green Energy are at the forefront, supplying tube lights to hospitals and other facilities, as well as streetlamps to entire cities. Along with industrial lighting, many companies like MIC Electronics Limited provide solar systems for everyday home use, and many companies are expanding their humanitarian efforts to disaster-torn areas and rural areas outside grid-based power.

  1. SOL, Inc.

    • Solar Outdoor Lighting (SOL), Inc. has been manufacturing and supplying solar lighting systems since 1990. In 2010, Urban Green Energy introduced the Sanya Wind/Solar Hybrid Streetlamp, which uses a combination of solar panels and wind turbines to produce year-round energy and can store up to five days of energy in its battery bank. The first light was installed in front of the Civic Center in San Francisco in 2010. Urban Green Energy was the first renewable energy company in the United States to receive certification for its products' safety, power and noise level. The company provides renewable energy systems to more than 40 clients around the world and has begun to install Sanya lighting systems to entire cities in North America, Australia, Asia and Europe.

    MIC Electronics Limited

    • Since its inception in 1985, MIC Electronics Limited has become an industry leader in the manufacture and supply of LED video displays and televisions, which have been used in sports stadiums and digital theaters. In 2010, the company placed a heavy emphasis on developing solar powered lighting systems for rural areas and undeveloped countries that are deprived of grid-based power.
