How to Recycle Epson PictureMate Ink Cartridges

In the United States, someone throws away a printer cartridge every 8 seconds, according to the Georgia Institute of Technology. Worldwide, computer users discard 70 percent of used cartridges, which adds up to more than 300 million cartridges each year. On average, each discarded cartridge contributes 3 pounds of waste to landfills. You can do your part in reducing waste and protecting the environment by recycling your Epson PictureMate cartridges, either locally or through Epson's recycling program.

Call office supply stores in your area to find out whether they have a recycling program for printer cartridges. Larger chain stores often will give you a rebate on your next purchase of cartridges if you bring used ones in for recycling.

Send your used PictureMate cartridges directly to Epson's recycling program if you cannot find an office supply store to take them. Enclose the cartridges in zip-locked bags to prevent ink from leaking out. Pack the cartridges in a shipping envelope or box and mail it to:

Prevent even more landfill waste by organizing an Epson cartridge recycling program at your workplace or school. Create a designated area for cartridge recycling, then package the cartridges and take them to an office supply store with a recycling program or send them to Epson's recycling program. You'll save money on shipping costs by sending the cartridges in one box.
