Of the many concerns that surround maltreatment of the environment, ethical responsibility remains pertinent. These ethical perspectives involve a number of issues, and can be attributed to political, business, religious and unaffiliated organizations.

• Generally speaking, ethics is a philosophical issue, one that depends on the perspective of the subject in question. With regard to environmental pollution, ethics refers to the responsibilities and moral imperatives that might structure our relationship with the environment. In many cases, these ethical considerations call you to some form of action to stem or end that pollution.

Types of Ethical Issues

• One example of ethical concern is consumption and whether contemporary culture encourages wasteful food, material and commodity use. Another issue is modern warfare and the harmful impact weapons, fuels and violence deliver upon the environment. A third example is the concern that passive stances today burden tomorrow's generations with unmanageable problems. There is also attention to the responsibilities of businesses to ensure safe practices and proper disposal and use of materials.

Institutions and Religious Ethics

• Ethical considerations are approached from a variety of standpoints. One method of approach is through the activist organization. Another is political, where policy-makers attempt to outline their public responsibilities and actions. Certain religious groups also assign great moral importance to environmental care. This is especially relevant with regard to Buddhism and Hinduism.
