Although Canon accepts the containers for recycling at its Canon Toner Container Collection Center, Canon doesn't provide free shipping. As a result, to recycle your GPR-16 toner container(s) at no cost to you, you should first pursue several local recycling possibilities. It you can't find another option, recycle through Canon.

  Call local recycling, waste management or energy recovery facilities to find out if you can recycle your GPR-16 toner container at a local location instead of sending it back to Canon. If you find a facility that accepts plastic containers made of the plastic indicated by a plastic resin code stamped into the container, request drop-off or shipping instructions. If you can't find a facility, check local office and computer supply stores.

  Wrap your Canon GPR-16 toner container(s) with plastic bags or wrap and place the container(s) in a box that you can drop off or ship. If you're shipping the container(s) back to Canon, make certain that you pack the box with packing materials and then seal it with clear packing tape.

  Take the container(s) to your local facility, drop-off location or store. If you're shipping the container(s) to Canon, take the box to a package shipping company -- for example, USPS, FedEX, UPS; or request a pick-up if you have a shipping account with a shipping company. If you're taking the box directly to the shipper, hand the box to the shipping company representative, and confirm the costs involved for sending the package to:
