How to Recycle Truck Parts

Old truck parts take up a lot of space in your home, garage or yard and can be a huge eyesore. Rusty and sharp truck parts in particular can pose a hazard to your children and pets. Unfortunately, since trucks have a title of ownership, truck parts are usually not accepted for curbside trash pickup. This is inconvenient for the owners of these truck parts, and, as a result, many dispose of their parts by dumping them in lakes or in the woods. There are better alternatives, however; if you need to get rid of your old truck or some of its parts, recycle the materials by donating them or selling them to a junkyard.

Instructions

    • 1

Search for a junkyard near you. Several online junkyard directories allow you to search for junkyards by state (see Resources).

    • 2

Contact a junkyard near you and inquire about their policy on accepting truck parts.

    • 3

Wash your truck parts, paint them when appropriate and get them in the best possible condition. Some junkyards will pay for your parts, and you will get more money if they look nice and work well.

    • 4

Take your truck parts to the junkyard of your choice and drop them off, or make arrangements for someone to pick them up, according to the junkyard's policy.
