Problems That Alternate Energy Can Solve
-
Reduced Carbon Footprint
-
The term "carbon footprint" is used to describe the amount of carbon monoxide or other harmful chemical left behind by a particular person or institution. For example, automobiles, trains and many industrial buildings produce chemicals as a waste product that harms the environment. Alternative energy sources such as solar power and wind power that do not produce carbon emissions can significantly shrink the carbon footprint of a business or household.
Decreased Ecosystem Damage
-
The increased demand for oil has cause significant damage to the world. Oil spills in Alaska and the Gulf of Mexico have damaged wildlife and their habitats, and shut down commercial fishing. Development of alternative power sources for automobiles and home heating would help lessen the demand for petroleum products, lessening the likelihood of future oil disasters.
Decreased Dependence on Exports
-
According to the Energy Information Administration, 51% of oil in the United States comes from other countries, meaning we are reliant on others for more than half of our crude oil. Development of an alternative source would help us become more energy-independent.
