1
Open your Internet browser and visit a recycling plant locating website. You can also use a telephone directory or business directory search online to find recycling plants nearest to you. Finding a recycling center that accepts oil or plastic will have the best chances at accepting the oil containers for recycling.
-
2
Locate a recycling plant near you by entering your state or zip code and search within your area. Each recycling plant may only recycle specific material, so be sure to search for your specific recycling needs.
-
3
Call a recycling plant that recycles oil or plastic near you. Inquire about the types of oil containers they will accept, as some recycling centers have stricter guidelines than others. Ask how the oil containers should be kept before they are recycled and dropped off to be sure you prepare them properly. You may have to bundle containers or clean them before dropping them off at the recycling center, so be sure to ask ahead of time.
-
4
Deliver the oil containers to the recycling plant. You will only need to drop them off---the rest is done by the recycling center itself. You may also be able to schedule a recycling pickup if it is available at your location.
