How to Recycle Polyurethane Foam

Taking care of the environment has become a priority in today's society due to the threat of climate change and other environmental consequences. Polyurethane is a material that is used in car parts and other items that are often tossed into the trash. Instead of tossing your polyurethane, there are companies that will buy and recycle the material. Doing so will help clean up the planet.

Visit the Center for the Polyurethanes Industry website to locate a polyurethane recycling center near you. The center provides research information on polyurethane, including how and where to recycle the material. On the recycling locator, find the center closest to you by entering either you zip code or selecting your state. You can only recycle polyurethane through an authorized recycling center.

Reuse your polyurethane. If there is not a polyurethane recycling center near you or if you do not feel that it is worth your time to drop it off at a center, find an alternate way to reuse your polyurethane. One option -- if you have an old truck liner made of polyurethane -- is to contact a local mechanic or body shop to see if it can reuse the liner. Another option is to reuse the material for a household project. Polyurethane is a very durable material that you can manipulate to create a variety of things, such as a bin or a piece of art.
