Photocopier Cartridge Recycling

Photocopiers and printers rely on removable cartridges to provide ink that is easily replaceable. These used cartridges can be refilled and recycled. Many cartridge reycling programs allow users to exchange these used cartridges for cash or other benefits.
  1. Recycling Process

    • After being collected from users, used cartridges are disassembled and their parts are examined. Worn parts are replaced, ink tanks are refilled and the cartridge is repackaged and sold, usually at a discount.

    Recycling Programs

    • Many programs collect used cartridges from businesses, retail outlets and other organizations. Some programs offer cash or discounts in exchange for cartridges. To be accepted for recycling, cartridges must be in good condition, and they cannot have been recycled or refurbished previously. Some of these recycling programs are run by third-party companies that sell refilled cartridges at a discount, and some are run by the original manufacturers.

    Accepted Cartridge Types

    • Not all photocopier ink containers can be recycled. Inkjet cartridges and laser toner cartridges are accepted by most cartridge recycling programs. Toner bottles and cartridge tubes are not accepted.
