1
Eliminate standing water to reduce mosquitoes' habitat. This includes rain gutters, buckets and old tires around a home. Change water in bird baths and other ornamental items daily to prevent mosquitoes from hatching in these water reservoirs.

2
Treat standing water with larvicides. Larvicides kill the mosquitoes in the larva and pupa stage. The amount of larvicide used is based on the area of the standing water. Larvicides include methoprene and temephos.

Spray adulticides, insecticides designed to kill adult mosquitoes, with an ultra-low-volume sprayer or fogger. The ULV spray forms fine droplets that disperse and stay in the air where they kill adult flying mosquitoes. As the droplets fall, they break up reducing risk to the environment and people. Audlticides are usually synthetic pyrethroids.
