Health Effects of Wireless Internet Signals

The public has expressed fear of cancer or other health effects being linked to wireless technology. The latest gadgets allow high-speed wireless connections throughout the world through radiofrequency base stations, otherwise known as hotspots. Health concerns have been raised about continuous exposure to these signals, especially for those in close proximity to the antenna.
  1. Exposure to Low-Powered Radio Frequency Energy

    • Wi-Fi Antenna

In reality, wireless networks operate at power levels that are low. The users of computers with Wi-Fi access are actually exposed to less radio-frequency energy than those using cell phones. According to the Health Physics Society, studies were performed that indicated the measured Wi-Fi signals fall well below international safety limits.

    Possible Adverse Effects

    • Electronics

Some individuals have reported allergies that they attribute to a hypersensitivity to wireless signals. Scientists have been studying this phenomenon for years, but through controlled studies have found no correlation between electronic use and their reported allergies. Radio-frequency exposures are emitted from several sources in the environment, so it is difficult to pinpoint the exact cause.

    No Known Hazards

    • Cell phone use

After scientific studies, the World Health Organization has concluded that there is no substantial evidence that radio-frequency signals from base stations or wireless networks cause any adverse health effects. Studies continue on this technology as well as wireless phones and other electronics to ensure the safety of the public.
