1
Research the local laws and requirements for opening a glass recycling center. As with any business, you need to ensure your business model falls into the legal guidelines of your current community.
-
2
Research your community. Do you have many recycling centers already? If you do, it may be harder to get customers, let alone a government business grant. Consider how to make the most out of your location.
-
3
Schedule meetings with local glass bottle distributors to see if they want to purchase your glass. Hammer out the fine details like payment and transport. How much will you make per shipment of glass? Who will be in charge of transporting the goods?
-
4
Set up your workspace. You can run a recycling center out of an office or even your home. You might want to start from home until your business gets a little bigger.
-
5
Remove all the labels and stickers from the glass that your company brings in. When materials go in for recycling, the company wants the materials to be as pure as possible. The labels and stickers on glass lessen the purity.
-
6
Store your glass in a safe place until the time comes to ship it. Plastic crates may be a good idea. Keep your crates in a safe and orderly location where they are unlikely to tip over or break the glass.
-
7
Deliver recycling bins to busy locations like schools, movie theaters and grocery stores. This makes people more likely to recycle because they often travel to these locations on a daily basis. It makes recycling more convenient because they do not need to go out of their way. Make a schedule for when you pick up the bins so that they do not overflow.
