How to Clean a Brita Water Purifier
Brita water pitchers filter minerals and bacteria out of tap water using a carbon filter. With time, a Brita water purifier can get dirty--even moldy. Just as you should wait for, at most, 100 gallons of use before switching the filter, you should also clean the purifier on a regular basis.Things You'll Need
- Mild detergent
- Round glassware brush

1
Remove the lid and wash it with a mild detergent.
-
2
Remove the charcoal filter and set it to the side. If you think it’s dirty, either soak it in cool water for 15 minutes or take this opportunity to replace it altogether. Then hold it under running tap water for a few seconds.
-
3
Lift out the white reservoir, the piece in which the filter sits. Wash it with a mild soap, possibly using a brush to clean out the narrow region in which the filter sits.
-
4
Wash out the clear pitcher with a mild detergent.
-
5
Put the pieces back together again. Note that when you put the filter back in, one groove in the filter matches up to a notch inside the reservoir, so the filter can fit inside only one way.
