How to Properly Dispose of Gasoline
Properly disposing of gasoline and oil from domestic sources is a major environmental concern. Many people simply pour these waste products down a storm drain or toss a container of gasoline into the trash. These forms of dumping are both dangerous and illegal, and come with a steep fine. If they infiltrate the water supply or are left in a landfill, they can threaten the health of human and animals. With a minimum effort, you can dispose of your gasoline properly and safely.Things You'll Need

1
Make sure your gasoline is too old for use. If you have extra gasoline in a vehicle or appliance, you can most likely transfer it to another vehicle or appliance. Even stored gasoline can still be viable after some time. If there is any water accumulation, sediment build-up, strange odor, or odd color to your stored gasoline, it is definitely time to dispose of it.

2
Put your gasoline into a heavy-duty plastic container with a very tight lid. Make sure the gasoline is stored in a building separated from your house, even if it's for a short time.
-
3
Contact your local auto body shop and ask if they will take your old gasoline. They may dispose of it for free or they may charge you a small fee.

4
Check in the yellow pages or online for local services that deal with waste management. These include recycling centers, fire departments and hazardous waste disposal centers. Depending on what solution is preferred in your specific location, you may pay a small fee for disposal.
