Health Effects of Black Mold

The effects of black mold are similar to other molds from other causes. There are two main indications that point to possible black mold contamination: one, if symptoms disappear or decrease in intensity when you are away from where the mold is; or two, the presence of a fruit, flower or musty smell.
  1. Susceptibility

    • Black mold can cause health problems for almost anyone, but infants, the elderly, AIDS patients, those with respiratory ailments and those who are on chemotherapy are the most susceptible.

    Allergies

    • Allergies are the most common effects of exposure to black mold. Symptoms include congestion, red and watery eyes, chronic sore throat and skin irritation.

    Diseases and Conditions

    • Black mold can cause many diseases and conditions such as chronic fatigue, tremors, heart palpitations, swelling of the legs, ankles, feet, torso or stomach, joint pain and cancer.

    Organ Damage

    • Toxic black mold can cause damage to vital organs such as the heart, liver, kidneys and the brain.

    Vascular Damage

    • Black mold can make the veins and arteries fragile leading to internal hemorrhaging.

    Skin Damage
