Environmental labels permit consumers to make informed decisions about products. They can read the labels and determine which product is the most environmentally friendly. Information found on labels can also let you know how to correctly dispose of the item. Environmental labels don't have to be difficult to understand.

      Get an idea about commonly used food environmental labels. On food items, you can find labels that let you know if the product is vegan, certified organic, hormone free and made without animal byproducts.

      Learn about environmental labels found on household products. Household cleaners can often contain harsh chemicals. Reading environmental labels can let you know if they are safe to use.

      Look for social responsibility labels. These include products that have been certified by different environmental organizations. Look for items that are certified by the Fair Trade, Rainforest Alliance, FSC and Food Alliance.
