How to Use the RCRA Superfund Hotline

The RCRA Superfund Hotline is a hotline provided by the Environmental Protection Agency. RCRA refers to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act. The RCRA addresses requirements for management of solid and hazardous waste. The hotline provides callers with information about how to treat and dispose of various kinds of waste.

  Call or visit the RCRA hotline. Find it online at Epa.gov/rcraonline or call the national toll free number at 1-800-424-9346. For the hearing impaired the phone number is 1-800-553-7672. The hotline is open from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Eastern Standard time Monday through Thursday except on federal holidays.

  Ask about land disposal restrictions. The operators know about federal laws and regulations for disposing of waste such as solvents, metals and acids.

  Find out how to dispose of used oil. Ask the RCRA hotline operator to provide you with information about oil disposal sites and oil recycling facilities.

  Get information about the proper tanks or containers to use when disposing of hazardous waste. Ask the operators for specific regulations about the containers that are used for different types of waste.

  Inquire about disposing machinery that burns fuel or contains hazardous waste. The government has strict regulations on how these types of engines or machinery need to be disposed of.

  Ask the RCRA hotline operator about transporting waste in and out of industrial facilities. The operators are equipped with state and national laws regarding the transportation of hazardous waste on public and private roads. These restrictions include vehicle registrations, transport speeds and driver restrictions.
