How to Use a DeRoyal Arm Sling

We use our arms every day, from the moment we wake up to the moment we go to sleep. With all this use, these vital body parts can become injured in a variety of ways. A simple sling, such as the DeRoyal arm sling, can help stabilize an injured arm and transmit the weight from the limb to the shoulder and back. This type of sling can help in a variety of injuries and you can use one in a few steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Insert the patient's arm hand-first into the folds of the sling.

    • 2

Insert the patient's thumb into the elastic thumb loop at the hand end of the sling. This will help stabilize the hand and wrist.

    • 3

Wrap the strap around the patient's back and over the shoulder opposite their affected arm.

    • 4

Slide the shoulder pad along the strap so that it rests between the strap and the patient's elbow.

    • 5

Insert the end of the strap into the "O" rings and pull upward until the patient's arm reaches the desired angle for stabilization.

    • 6

Press the Velcro portion of the end of the strap against the length of the strap to secure the sling in position.
