Epoxy Glue Dangers

Epoxy glue is a strong adhesive used in the construction of cars, bikes, air crafts and boats. It is used as an adhesive for stone, plastics and wood. It can be purchased in a hobby store or online. Krazy Glue is an example of a commercial brand of epoxy glue. It is so strong, you could actually get your fingers stuck together if it spills on them. Epoxy glue is used as a potent adhesive used in industrial and home applications. No matter which application you are using it in, you must take certain safety precautions as it can be a very dangerous glue if you are not careful.
  1. Inhalation

    • Epoxy adhesive is dangerous if inhaled. Immediately leave the area where there are fumes and move into the fresh air. Seek medical attention if you experience continuing discomfort. Inhalation can cause breathing problems. Inhalation can also cause dizziness and vomiting.

    Skin Contact

    • Fingers can get stuck together using an epoxy glue like Krazy Glue and they are impossible to pull apart. Use nail polish remover with acetone to break down the bond. "Soak the bonded area in warm, soapy water. Carefully peel or roll the skin apart gently and slowly,"according to the Krazy Glue website. Skin contact can cause burning, irritation and itchiness.

    Eye Contact

    • If it gets in your eyes, immediately flush eyes with water and rinse for about 15 minutes and seek medical attention.

    Ingestion

    • If epoxy glue is ingested, do not induce vomiting but instead seek immediate medical attention. According to the epoxy safety sheet, "There is danger of very serious irreversible effects when it comes in contact with skin or swallowed." According to the sheet it is a known or suspected carcinogen for humans and could cause irritation to nose and throat.
