How to Tape a Split Chin

Treating a split chin is difficult because the chin is a strange area for an injury to occur. Use a butterfly bandage to close the wound. According to the Harvard Medical School, "A butterfly bandage is used to hold together the edges of a cut." Stop the bleeding from the chin first with a cloth and then apply the butterfly bandage keep the gash from flowing. Get the injured person to a hospital in case stitches need to be applied.

      Stay calm. Don't panic at the sight of blood. Because of the area of the injury, there will a lot of blood. You don't want to panic or worry the injured person.

      Put dry cloth on the chin to stop the bleeding. Have the injured person sit down and face forward while the cloth is applied.

      Wet a different cloth while the dry cloth is being applied. Put the wet cloth on the wound to clean it. (See tips)

      Go get a first aid kit and retrieve a butterfly bandage from the kit.

      Remove the wet cloth and put the butterfly bandage on the would. Put the middle of the bandage on the cut of the chin so that the corners of the bandage pull the skin to close the open wound. Take the injured person to a hospital if more help is needed.
