What to Do If Oxy Clean Gets in the Eye

OxyClean is a granulated chlorinated cleaner manufactured by Melrose Chemicals, Ltd., that is used to clean stains from fabric. Because of the powerful effects of chlorine, OxyClean may cause damage to the eye.
  1. Flush With Water

    • Flush the eye with plenty of cool water for 15 minutes. If you are wearing contact lenses, remove them to cleanse the eye thoroughly. You may experience inflammation, redness and puffy eyes.

    Obtain Medical Attention

    • Seek medical attention. Dial 9-1-1 or go to an emergency room. Take a container of the substance with you, if possible, so that the doctor will know exactly what caused the problem.

    Prevention

    • Melrose Company recommends wearing safety glasses when using OxyClean. Working in a well-ventilated area also helps prevent the chemical from coming in contact with your eye.
