New Jersey Paramedic Training
Paramedics work to save lives by providing emergency, pre-hospital care. They perform techniques that stabilize patients before and during their transport to the hospital. They work at emergencies with fire fighters and police. From car accidents and gunshot wounds to heart attacks and women in labor, paramedics must understand how to treat every emergency with care. New Jersey schools offer programs where interested students can become certified as paramedics.-

Prospective paramedics must earn the EMT-Basic certification before they can begin training as a paramedic. They must be at least 18-years-old with a high school diploma or GED. They must have Red Cross Certification or National Safety Council CPR Certification.

Requirements for earning a certificate vary by school. Generally, students must complete clinical training over a number of semesters, as well as an internship and field residency training. They learn patient assessment techniques, advanced life support and how to interpret an EKG.
Associate's in Applied Science in Paramedic Sciences

Those who earn an Associate's degree in paramedic sciences have completed coursework in English composition, math and biomedical ethics, in addition to the fundamental paramedics curriculum required for certificate programs.

Those who successfully complete these programs must pass the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians paramedic exam to practice in the state of New Jersey. Camden County College also offers continuing education courses for paramedics.
Hudson County Community College works with Jersey City Medical Center to offer certificate programs and associate's degrees for paramedic training. Students study in the Health, Science and Technology Division for training in pre-hospital emergency care, trauma management and pharmacology.

Paramedics can advance into management roles with proper training and education. Some paramedics become instructors, emergency dispatchers or physicians' assistants.
