Red Cross Senior First Aid Training

A Red Cross senior first aid course teaches first aid basics that empower someone to provide emergency care in the home or the workplace. The course is a minimum 15 hours of classroom study.
  1. Initial Assessment.

    • Training covers the chain of survival and altered conscience states.

      Students learn the signs of life and how to assess the situation. They also learn how to care for those who are unconscious.

    CPR and Cardiac

    • CPR training uses Manikins and other devices.

      Students learn how to deal with cardiac emergencies, including how to perform CPR on adults, children and babies. The instructor demonstrates the proper use of an automated external defibrillator.

    Breathing Emergencies

    • Students learn to make sure the airflow path is unobstructed.

      Students learn how to handle breathing emergencies such as choking and asthma.

    First Aid Basics

    • Senior first aid training covers the types of bandages and their proper use.

      Students learn how to deal with bleeding and wounds, burns, bites and stings, musculoskeletal injuries and poisoning.

    Allergic Reaction and Shock

    • Extremes of heat and cold have different effects on the human body.

      Students study the effects of temperature extremes, severe allergic reaction and shock and how to give appropriate first aid.

    Infection Control

    • The proper use of gloves can prevent the spread of some infectious diseases.

      Students learn how to give first aid safely. They also learn infection control as well as reporting procedures.
