Basic Safety Training
The types of safety training are numerous. For example, if you work in an industrial environment, you may need specific training for safe use of specialized equipment or lifesaving techniques. However, there are basic safety training methods that can be valuable for anyone to learn. By learning these basic techniques, you can help prevent accidents and respond appropriately during an emergency.-
Choking or Drowning
-
Basic safety training should always include the most commonly needed first aid techniques, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation. CPR training can be a lifesaving technique in many emergencies, including choking, electrical accidents, drowning, head trauma and heart failure. CPR training includes removing obstructions from airways, and using chest compressions alternated with rescue breaths to continue the flow of blood to the brain.
Serious Injury
-
Another essential part of basic safety training is learning how to handle serious injuries, especially deep wounds with uncontrolled bleeding. Training techniques include how to put pressure on a wound to stop bleeding, as well as finding arterial pressure points to stop bleeding when applying pressure does not work. Training also includes preventing the injured person from going into shock by loosening restrictive clothing and keeping the person warm.
Safety Equipment
-
An important element of basic safety training is learning to how use safety equipment and proper procedures when using common tools. Safety equipment training may include things such as wearing safety glasses and face masks when drilling, sawing and sanding. Tool safety could include removing loose-fitting clothing or tying back long hair that could get caught in moving parts, and working on appropriate, dry surfaces to avoid slips or even electrocution.
Household Safety
-
People tend to think of their house as a safe, but many serious, and even fatal accidents, happen in the home. Basic safety training should always include teaching prevention measures individuals can take to avoid common causes of household injury. This can include learning how to prevent falls in the bathroom, and safe use of stoves, ovens and furnaces. Training on the prevention of electrical accidents, or even fires, due to frayed wires or unsafe appliance use may also be included in basic safety training.
Outdoor Safety
-
Basic safety training for outdoor activities is important to preventing serious injury. Some common prevention training could include recognizing symptoms of heat stroke, swimming safety training and appropriate equipment use for sports activities. Training may also include first aid techniques for handling minor wounds, serious sunburns and insect bites or stings.
