Storage Instructions for Oxycodone

Oxycodone is a drug used to relieve severe pain for people who have had surgery or are recovering from a disease like cancer. It is a very powerful drug which can have severe side effects for people who are not supposed to take it or who abuse it with other types of medication or substances. It is also fragile in its make-up. These are all reasons why there are specific instructions for storing oxycodone.

  1. Temperature

    • It is important that oxycodone tablets are stored at specific temperatures so they work properly when ingested. The proper temperature in which to store these tablets is 59 to 86 degrees Fahrenheit. If not stored at the proper temperature, the chemical components of these tablets will quickly break down and they won't relieve the pain they were designed to relieve.

    Storage Conditions

    • Oxycodone tablets should be kept in a dry place. They should be kept out of any direct sunlight or moisture, as this will downgrade the chemical make-up of the tablets and make them less effective when they are used. A medicine closet or cabinet is usually the best place for them. Consider not having them in a cabinet in the bathroom, though, as the shower steam and the constant heating and cooling of the room may affect the pill's potency.

    Security

    • As oxycodone is a powerfu painkiller, it is a pharmaceutical narcotic which can become addicting to people taking it or craved by people who are addicted to drugs. As with any drug people want to consume freely and illegally, it should be put under lock and key, to keep people from stealing it and taking it themselves.

      In a household, it's also important to keep oxycodone away from children and teenagers, so that the pills are not abused or accidentally taken with bad results. Keep oxycodone away from over-the-counter medications and in a place that is secure and where only you can easily access it.
