How to Bandage a Hand

When you're wrapping your hand due to an injury, you want to bandage it correctly in order to protect the hand from further injury. Bandaging a hand can also promote healing and ensure you don't move it in a way to cause you unnecessary pain. Follow these steps to wrap an injured hand.

Instructions

    • 1

Use a roller bandage for the hand. You can find this style of bandage at any drugstore. With this type of dressing, you control how the bandage lies on your wounded hand. You'll also want to base the size of the bandage on how large your hand is.

    • 2

Start at the wrist. When you're wrapping a hand, you'll start at your wrist and then work your way to other areas of the hand. Keep the bandage secure prior to wrapping by going around the wrist two or three times.

    • 3

Head in a diagonal direction up and over your palm. After passing over the palm, you'll wrap the bandage around the top of your hand.

    • 4

Repeat the process. You'll want to go back over the wrist and then the palm until the bandage has tightened around your hand. Keep making the turn until you're able to secure the bandage with the provided clip.
