How to Properly Bring a Freezer Warehouse Down to Zero

Most freezer warehouses use a thermostat to monitor and regulate the temperature inside. If you are bringing a freezer warehouse down to zero for the first time, leave plenty of time for it to cool, because the cooling speed may slow as the freezer gets further below the outside temperature.

Instructions

    • 1

Close all openings in the freezer warehouse to keep the refrigerated air from escaping. Check the doors, vents and seams, to make sure they are completely sealed.

    • 2

If possible, remove any items stored in the warehouse. Having the warehouse empty will speed cooling. However, if the items must be kept cold, it is more efficient to leave them inside and allow more time.

    • 3

Turn on the refrigeration controls to cool the space. If the controls have a thermostat, set the temperature to zero degrees F. Setting the thermostat to a lower temperature will not cause the freezer to cool any faster.

    • 4

Monitor the temperature inside the freezer warehouse with a thermometer. Even if the controls have a built-in thermometer, check the progress of the cooling with an independent one. Place the thermometer away from any cooling vents, and hang it where it's not touching any metal surfaces.

When the freezer warehouse reaches zero, it is ready to be used. To maintain the temperature, keep the door closed as much as possible.
