The Safest Non-Toxic Reuseable Water Bottles

Many people are drinking bottled water. According to the International Water Association, 4.7 billion gallons of bottled water was consumed by Americans in 2000, with many of those bottles ending up in land fills. In 2011 some consumers are choosing reusable water bottles instead of disposable ones. Bottles now come in metal, aluminum, glass and plastic. With health in mind it is important to find out which reusable water bottles are safe.
  1. Stainless Steel

    • Stainless steel water bottles are sturdy, durable, washable and will last for years. With the addition of a tote or sleeve the water remains cool for longer periods of time. Food grade stainless steel is lightweight and will not leach chemicals into the liquids inside. This means your water will taste like water all day long. Stainless steel water bottles are safe from toxic effects and can be recycled at the end of their useful life.

    Thermos Beverage Bottles

    • Thermos bottles made out of stainless steel can double as a coffee thermos on cold days, saving the need for two different containers. Stainless steel does not require a water based liner that could break down with heat. Thermos bottles are strong and durable with a wide opening that makes it easier to keep clean. Thermos bottles can keep the beverage hot or cold for up to 12 hours depending on the quality of the bottle.

    Aluminum

    • Aluminum water bottles are safe and durable. The drawback to aluminum is that the water will eventually start to taste like aluminum. Quality aluminum water bottles have a special coating on the inside to solve this problem. The coating is taste neutral, as well as resistant to the acids found in fruit and energy drinks. If the aluminum water bottle has FDA approval it will be safe for years of use.

    Plastic

    • All plastic bottles have a triangle with a number in it. Bottles with the numbers two, four or five are considered safe. Bottles with a number two are made out of high density polyethylene. Number four is a low density polyethylene. Number five is made out of polypropylene, the same kind of plastic used to make ketchup bottles. These three plastics are used in the food industry and considered safe.
