How to Ship Boiled Crawfish
Perishable items such as meat, poultry and fish need special preparation and packaging prior to shipping to prevent spoilage. A safe way to ship boiled crawfish, so it won't be susceptible to bacteria growth, is by thoroughly freezing and packing it in an insulated container with dry ice. Perishable items should be sent on an express schedule and during the first part of the week so the package won't have to sit idle on weekends at shipping facilities.Things You'll Need
- Cardboard box
- Packing tape
- Plastic trash bag
- Styrofoam cooler
- Dry ice
- Corrugated shipping carton (large enough to hold the cooler)
- Permanent marker
Instructions

1
Place the crawfish in a cardboard box lined with a leak-proof bag. Thoroughly freeze the crawfish.
-
2
Line the bottom of the Styrofoam cooler with newspaper and add the frozen crawfish in the cardboard box, packing any free spaces on the sides of the box tightly with newspaper.
-
3
Place dry ice over the box of frozen crawfish and fill in all free space at the top of the box with newspaper. Tape the lid closed.
-
4
Cover the outside of the cooler with a trash bag and tape tightly in place. Put the cooler inside the shipping carton and seal closed with packing tape.
-
5
Write the complete address in permanent marker on the box to reduce the chances of the package being misdirected or delayed. Mark that the contents of the box are perishable; also that it contains dry ice, so the recipients won't accidentally burn their hands while unpacking--dry ice will freeze the skin on contact.
-
6
Take the package to the shipper immediately and call the recipients to notify them of the package's expected delivery date.
