Pennsylvania Restaurant Inspection Information

The Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services, a division of the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture, regulates restaurants to ensure that they comply with food safety laws. The Bureau conducts audits and inspections of food retailers and shares this information with the public.
  1. Retail Food Facilities and Restaurants

    • The Bureau of Food Safety and Laboratory Services's retail foods and restaurant program works to maintain product safety at restaurants, bakeries, caterers, mobile units, stores, online food businesses and fair concessionaires. All retailers are required to obtain either a Public Eating and Drinking Places License for foods available for immediate consumption or a Food Establishment Registration for food sold in packages for future consumption.

    Food Establishment Inspection

    • The bureau also provides a database of real-time inspection reports for eating and drinking establishments. Inspections record health conditions at each business and list any violations. The database may be searched by business name, county, zip code or compliance type. The search results provide the dates of recent inspections and links to the actual reports.

    Related Publications

    • The bureau's forms and publications are aimed at educating consumers and restaurant owners about food safety. Informative publications include Dos & Don'ts for Food Managers and Hot Tips on Food Preparation. All forms and publications can be downloaded and reviewed online.
