In the medical field what type of procedure does EGD stand for?
EGD stands for esophagogastroduodenoscopy. It is a procedure that allows a doctor to examine the inside of the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum (the first part of the small intestine). An EGD is performed using a thin, flexible tube with a camera on the end. The tube is inserted into the mouth and passed down the throat into the esophagus, stomach, and duodenum. The camera allows the doctor to see the inside of these organs and look for any abnormalities, such as inflammation, ulcers, or tumors.
