What does the medical abbreviation TE mean?
Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) is a severe skin reaction that can be life-threatening. It is caused by a reaction to certain medications, such as antibiotics, NSAIDs, and anticonvulsants. TEN causes the skin to blister and peel, and can also affect the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose, and mouth.
Thromboembolism is a condition in which a blood clot (thrombus) forms in a blood vessel and then travels through the bloodstream to block another blood vessel. Thromboembolism can cause a variety of symptoms, depending on the location of the clot. For example, a pulmonary embolism (PE) occurs when a blood clot blocks an artery in the lungs, and can cause shortness of breath, chest pain, and coughing up blood. A deep vein thrombosis (DVT) occurs when a blood clot forms in a deep vein, typically in the leg, and can cause pain, swelling, and tenderness.
