Chronic kidney disease (CKD) classification stage

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a progressive loss of kidney function over time. CKD is classified into five stages, based on the level of kidney damage:

- Stage 1: Mild kidney damage

- Stage 2: Moderate kidney damage

- Stage 3: Severe kidney damage

- Stage 4: Very severe kidney damage

- Stage 5: Kidney failure

The stage of CKD is determined by estimating glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and measurement of urine albumin. GFR is a measure of how well the kidneys are filtering waste products from the blood. Urine albumin is a measure of the amount of protein in the urine.

CKD is a serious condition that can lead to a number of complications, including:

- Heart disease

- Stroke

- Peripheral artery disease

- Diabetes

- Anemia

- Bone disease

- Kidney failure
