How to Sterilize Acrylic
Acrylic, which is a synthetic fiber, is often used to make pharmaceutical and medical instruments because as they are transparent and light. As they are used in medical procedures, acrylic instruments need to be sterilized frequently. You can sterilize acrylic instruments with purified or distilled water; water from the faucet will not do the job. Once you have cleaned these acrylic instruments of any impurities you should air dry them to avoid getting any particles on them from any drying cloths.Things You'll Need
- Distilled or de-ionised water
- Paper towels
- A pipette

Drench the acrylic instrument in distilled or de-ionized water as soon as you have finished using it. This stops proteins building up on the acrylic.

Wash off all parts of the acrylic using running distilled or de-ionized water. These are just other terms for purified water which must be used, not water from the faucet. Purified water ensures that the acrylic will be sterilized of impurities.

Draw off any remaining water in the instrument using a pipette if you cannon turn it over and empty it.

Put a paper towel over the acrylic instrument and let it dry at room temperature.
