Serophene, generically known as clomiphene, is a drug used to stimulate the ovulation of eggs in women. As is the case with prescription drugs, Serophene may cause a number of side effects ranging in severity based on the dose size and the individual.-

Serophene is a prescription drug that specifically stimulates ovulation by causing the release of essential hormones. It is primarily used as a treatment for female infertility. Female users of Serophene have ovaries that are capable of producing a follicle, but suffer hormonal deficiencies.
Common Side Effects

According to Drugs.com, Serophene may cause the following common and less severe side effects: blurred vision; dizziness; enlarged breasts; nausea; headache; hot flashes; pelvic pain; stomach pain; vomiting; and mild mood change. Although these side effects are common and less serious than others, seek immediate medical attention if one or several of these persist or intensify. Persistent side effects may be a sign of a more serious problem.

Drugs.com reports that Serophene is generally well tolerated, but in clinical trials there have been adverse experiences reported by patients. The severe side effects of Serophene include: severe allergic reaction including swelling of the face and/or throat; increased risk of ovarian cancer; ovarian over-stimulation; and spontaneous abortion. In a clinical trial of 498 patients, 13.6 reported ovarian enlargement. Ovarian cancer has been infrequently reported, less than one percent, but prolonged use may increase risk. The preceding side effects are severe and should be treated immediately.
Using Serophene

Serophene should be taken exactly as prescribed to you by your doctor. Do not alter the dose size or duration of your prescription. Serophene is often taken in a cycle of five days, but check with your doctor to determine a specific timetable. Tablets should be taken with a full glass of water (8 oz.) and stored at room temperature. According to Drugs.com, further treatment with Serophene should not be attempted after three unsuccessful courses.

Serophene may increase the likelihood of multiple births. Do not take Serophene if you are pregnant. If you miss a dose of Serophene, contact your doctor. Use caution when driving since it may be difficult due to the occurrence of blurred vision and slower reactions.
