What to Expect After Permanent Eyeliner

If you are considering permanent eyeliner, there are numerous factors you should consider before going ahead with the procedure. Inks used in intradermal tattoos for permanent makeup have not been fully tested by the FDA for safety; side effects may occur.
  1. Considerations

    • Makeup tattoos are permanent. If you are dissatisfied with your makeup tattoo, you may be stuck with it.Tattoos can fade, blur or spread when applied too deeply. Permanent makeup may look unflattering as your skin tones and facial structure change with age.

    Effects

    • If you opt for facial cosmetic surgery at a later time, your permanent makeup will become distorted.

    Potential

    • Permanent makeup can cause complications during Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI). You may experience burning, swelling and discomfort at the site; this is temporary and should not cause any lasting effects.

    Changes

    • Keloids may form at site of the permanent makeup; they occur even more frequently when tattoos are removed. You may also develop granulomas--nodules that form around the foreign substance injected into your skin.

    Dangers

    • Tattoo equipment can transmit infectious diseases such as staph and hepatitis. If you received your makeup at an unregulated facility you may be refused the right to donate blood or plasma for up to a year.

    Significance

    • You may have difficulty removing your permanent makeup once it is tattooed, especially around the eye area. Removal of your tattoo without scarring may be impossible.
