An organ is a part of the human body made up of two or more different tissues, which plays a specific role in maintaining the body's health and proper function. Healthy organs all work together cohesively and gaining a better understanding of how helps you to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

    Skin

    • The skin is the largest organ on the human body. Made up of three layers, the epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous layer, its purpose is to protect the rest of the tissue and organs in the body. It also enables the sense of touch.

    Brain

    • The brain is the center of the nervous system and the thinking mind. Its purpose is to control unconscious processes of the body, such as breathing, and to command your body to follow through on voluntary movement, such as walking.

    Heart

    • The heart is the center of the cardiovascular system. It pumps oxygen-rich blood throughout your body on a regulated and constant basis. It consists of four hollow chambers through which the blood flows to and from the appropriate locations of the body.

    Lungs

    • As the center of the respiratory system, the lungs filter carbon dioxide from your blood and replace it with oxygen. Humans breath in an out about 15 times a minute in order to provide the correct amount of oxygen to the blood for a healthy functioning body.

    Kidneys

    • The function of the kidneys isn't glamorous. They make urine out of the waste in the body, which is key to maintaining a consistent composition of elements within the blood.
