Linctus Side Effects

Linctus, also known as Codeine Linctus, is a drug that contains the active ingredient codeine to both treat individuals with mild to severe pain and to suppress the common cough. Use of this drug may lead to a number of side effects ranging in severity.

    • Linctus is a prescription drug that acts as cough suppressant and expectorant to relieve irritation caused by the the common cold or allergies. According to Drugs.com, Linctus works by suppressing the brain's response to cough and thus prevents dry cough. It also loosens mucus in the throat so that coughs are more productive. Other uses of the drug may be determined by your doctor.

    Common Side Effects

    • Common side effects of the drug reported by users include drowsiness, dizziness, general weakness, anxiety, headache, mild insomnia and nausea. These common side effects can become serious if they worsen or occur regularly. In such a case, contact your doctor immediately.

    Severe Side Effects

    • Drugs.com reports that in rare cases, the following side effects may arise: difficulty urinating, severe dizziness and drowsiness, tremors, severe headache, irregular heartbeat, fast heartbeat, hallucinations and seizures. Severe allergic reaction may also occur as a result of using Sporidex. Seek immediate medical attention as soon as you notice any of these side effects.

    Use

    • Sporidex should be taken orally with an 8-oz. glass of water. Remember to drink plenty of fluids to avoid the side effects of dehydration. Sporidex may also be taken with food to lessen the chances of upset stomach. Swallow whole and make sure to never chew or break the tablet. Store at room temperature.

    Warning

    • Take note of how the medication affects you before attempting to drive or operate heavy machinery. Never use in children under 2 years old. If symptoms have not cleared within a week, contact your doctor before continuing treatment with Sporidex. Use with caution in the elderly.
