Istin, also known generically as amlodipine, is a drug that treats individuals suffering from high blood pressure. As is common with prescription drugs, a number of mild to severe side effects may occur as a result of use.-

Istin is a prescription drug that is classified as a calcium channel blocker. According to Drugs.com, it works by "... relaxing (dilating) your blood vessels, lowering blood pressure and decreasing heart rate, which lowers the workload on the heart." In doing so, Istin is effective in decreasing blood pressure and easing chest pain.
Common Side Effects

Commons side effects that may occur as a result of using Istin include headache, cough, dizziness, drowsiness, lightheadedness and swelling of the extremities. Though less serious than other side effects, these may become more problematic if they persist or worsen. In such a case, contact your doctor.
Severe Side Effects

Though arising in rare cases, the use of Istin can cause the following severe side effects: yellowing of the skin or eyes, irregular or slow heartbeat, chest pain, infection and fever. Contact your doctor immediately if any of these side effects occur.

Always take Istin as prescribed by your doctor. Never change the size of the recommended dose or duration of use. Take Istin with food to avoid upset stomach. Although symptoms may seem cured, always use the medication for the designated time frame.
