Side Effects of Rabipur

Rabipur is a vaccine that is used to prevent rabies infection and to treat individuals who are infected. Use of this vaccine could result in the occurrence of a number of mild to severe effects.
  1. Identification

    • Rabipur is a vaccine that protects the body from rabies. It works effectively by producing antibodies that are capable of destroying the rabies cells. Typical treatment is administered in a series of injections. Although Rabipur will protect you from getting rabies, it is not 100 percent effective.

    Common Side Effects

    • Common side effects that are mild and generally less serious than others include headache, skin irritation at the injection site, fever, chills, increased sweating, general weakness, nausea, mild stomach pain and skin rash. Though common, report the occurrence of any of the preceding side effects to your doctor if they worsen or persist.

    Severe Side Effects

    • Users of Rabipur may experience the following severe side effects: irregular heartbeat, vision changes, dizziness and drowsiness, loss of feeling in the extremities, swelling of the face or tongue, difficulty breathing, paralysis, confusion, hallucinations and sensitivity to light. Contact your doctor immediately if any of the above side effects arise.

    Use

    • Rabipur should be injected by a medical professional into the muscle of the upper arm. Never inject Rabipur directly into the skin or veins. Typical dose of the vaccine is 1 ml per injection. To avoid scarring, the injection site is typically rotated. Be sure to alert your doctor to any medications or over-the-counter drugs you may be taking to avoid any possible drug interactions.

    Warning

    • Never attempt to self-inject Rabipur. If you are pregnant or breast-feeding, discuss the hazards of taking Rabipur with your doctor. Alert your doctor if you are allergic to chicken eggs, as Rapibur may cause a severe allergic reaction.
