Chlorthal Side Effects

Chlorthalidone, often shortened to Chlorthal, is a drug that is used mainly to treat high blood pressure. As is common with prescription drugs, chlorthalidone may cause a number of mild to severe side effects based on the individual and the dosage.

As such, it prevents the retention of fluid in the body and treats high blood pressure as well as kidney disorders, liver cirrhosis, and congestive heart failure.     Serious Side Effects

    • Drugs.com reports the more serious side effects that may occur as a result of using chlorthalidone include drowsiness, dry mouth, impotence, inflammation of the pancreas, muscle pain or cramps, nausea, rapid or irregular heartbeat, rash or itching, restlessness, unusual thirst, unusual tiredness or weakness, vomiting and yellowing of the skin or eyes. Severe allergic reaction may also occur. Do not hesitate to seek immediate medical attention if you have any of these problems.

    Using Chlorthalidone

    • Chlorthalidone is generally taken orally in the morning with or without food. The use of food can help to alleviate feelings of upset stomach.
