The use of Ativan may lead to the occurrence of a number of severe side effects, including worsening depression, mental or mood changes, memory loss, hallucinations, agitation and confusion. Severe skin irritation and swelling of the face or throat may also occur as a result of allergic reaction to the medication. Seek immediate medical attention if any of the preceding side effects arise.

Common side effects of using Ativan include unsteadiness, lightheadedness, dizziness, headache, drowsiness, general weakness, clumsiness, mild insomnia, blurred vision, appetite changes, nausea and vomiting. The majority of patients do not experience any side effects, however these are the most common complaints. Contact your doctor if side effects worsen or regularly occur.

Always take Ativan exactly as prescribed. Never alter the size of the doses or the duration of use. This medication can be taken with or without food but should be taken with a glass of water. Store at room temperature away from heat, light and moisture.
Warning

Never take this medication for more than four months, as it can be habit-forming. Using alcohol while taking Ativan can increase the severity of certain side effects. Individuals with a history of substance abuse should discuss the dangers of using Ativan with their doctor. Never take Ativan if pregnant or breast-feeding. Use with extreme care in the elderly.
