Finasteride Side Effects
Finasteride, often sold under the brand names Popecia and Proscar, is a drug used to treat the symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) in men. Users of Finasteride may experience a number of side mild to severe side effects based on the particular individual, the size of the dose and other factors.-

Finasteride is a prescription drug that is associated with the treatment of men with an enlarged prostate. According to Drugs.com, "Finasteride prevents the conversion of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) in the body. DHT is involved in the development of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)." In addition to treating enlarged prostate, Finasteride is also used to treat male pattern baldness.
Less Serious Side Effects

Finasteride users have reported no common side effects as a result of treatment. Finasteride may cause, however, the following less side effects: mild swelling of the extremities, dizziness, weakness, runny nose, mild skin irritation, headache, rash, testicular pain, swelling of the nipples, impotence and abnormal ejaculation. Though less serious than other side effects, the worsening or persistence of any from the above list may signal a serious condition. In such an event, seek immediate medical attention.

According to Drugs.com, Finasteride can cause a number of serious side effects in rare cases including lumps, pain, tenderness of the breasts, severe testicular pain and nipple discharge. Severe allergic reaction signaled by severe skin irritation and swelling of the face may also occur as a result of use. Contact your doctor immediately if any of these severe side effects occur.
Using Finasteride

Always take prescription drugs exactly as prescribed by your doctor by never altering the dose size or duration of use. Finasteride can be taken with or without food, but should be taken with a large glass (8 oz.) of water. Regular use of this product is essential to its working effectively. Be sure to store at room temperature away from both heat and moisture.

Finasteride should never be taken by a woman or child. The medication should never be handled by a women or child as it can seep into the skin. A pregnant women who comes into contact with this medication may be in danger of harming her fetus. Never take a double dose of the medication to compensate for a missed dose. Drugs.com recommends taking the medication for up to 12 months before discontinuing use.
