Alfuzosin, sold under the brand name Uroxatral, is a prescription drug used to treat men with enlarged prostates. Alfuzosin users may experience several side effects that range in severity according to the dosage and individual.-

Alfuzosin is classified as an alpha-adrenergic blocker. As such, it relaxes muscles so that urination is easier. According to Drugs.com, the drug blocks "receptors in the lower urinary tract, causing smooth muscles in the bladder neck and prostate to relax." Alfuzosin is taken orally as a tablet.
Common Side Effects

Alfuzosin users may experience these common side effects: stomach pain, dizziness, runny nose, headache,diarrhea, constipation, drowsiness and fatigue. If any of these symptoms persist or become more bothersome, contact your doctor immediately.
Serious Side Effects

Although many patients have complained of few or no side effects, according to Drugs.com, alfuzosin can cause these serious side effects: chest pain, dark-colored urine, unusual weakness, yellowing of the skin or eyes, severe stomach pain, fainting, irregular heartbeat, joint and muscle pain, prolonged erection, pale stool and severe dizziness. A severe allergic reaction also may occur. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience one or several of these symptoms.
Using Alfuzosin

Alfuzosin should be taken with food and a full glass of water at the same meal once per day. Always swallow the alfuzosin tablet whole in order to ensure that the medication is released properly. Store at room temperature away from heat and moisture. Never deviate from your doctor's prescription by altering the dose size. The usual adult dose is 10 mg per day.

While taking alfuzosin, be sure to get up slowly after lying down in order to avoid fainting and dizziness. Until you know how the medication affects you, avoid driving or operating heavy machinery. Alfuzosin's safety in children has not yet been determined.
