How to Make Pocket Warmers
Pocket warmers are made out of varying types of materials, one of the most popular combinations being flannel and white rice. These homemade hand warmers keep your hands warm while they are inside your pockets. A well-designed flannel pouch filled with heated white rice will keep a person's hands warm for at least 30 minutes at a time and can be used many times before wearing out.Things You'll Need

1
Cut out two pieces of flannel material just big enough to fit into your front pockets. Often, two 4-inch-square pieces of material will work.
-
2
Place one piece of flannel on top of the other. Ensure that the edges meet on all sides.
-
3
Sew three sides together and stitch only half of the remaining side so a small opening is left on one side of the pouch.
-
4
Place the tip of a small funnel into the opening. Pour the white rice through the funnel and into the pouch until the pouch is full of rice. Remove the funnel and stitch the hole shut with a needle and thread.

5
Place the flannel pouch full of rice in the microwave. Run the microwave on high heat for about two minutes or long enough to make the rice hot enough to warm your hands. Test the pouch by gently touching it. If the rice inside is too hot, allow it to cool a bit before placing it in your pocket.

6
Repeat the preceding steps to make a second pouch. Wrap your hands around them to keep your hands warm.
