How to Avoid Overheating
Nobody enjoys being hot and sweaty, but overheating is a serious situation that extends beyond the annoyance of pit stains. Anyone can overheat, but elderly and obese individuals, along with young children are particularly vulnerable. In warm weather, maintaining a healthy core temperature requires more than wearing a short-sleeved shirt and sandals. Avoiding overheating isn't difficult, but does require a comprehensive approach to prevention.Things You'll Need

1
Maximize your body's natural cooling ability and sweat evaporation rate by wearing loose-fitting clothing made from breathable, natural fibers, like linen and cotton. Exercise clothing made from breathable, sweat-wicking fabric is also effective. Conversely, avoid wearing confining, synthetic clothing that traps moisture and limits your skin's ability to breath.

2
Hydrate regularly by drinking water-diluted sports drinks. Consume one to two cups or more of a non-alcoholic beverage every half hour during intense heat. Consistent hydration, regardless of thirst, maximizes your body's natural cooling ability and prevents overheating. Cold water works better than nothing, but the sodium and electrolytes in sports drinks help your body retain and absorb the fluid.

3
Seek cool temperatures when available. Resting for a few minutes in the shade prevents overheating. In the absence of shade, take a five or 10 minute break every hour inside an air conditioned building. Reducing your core temperature, even for short periods, protects your body against overheating.
